Matthew 5:48 “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Joy was invited to the Good News Program at the time each child brought rocks for a needle and thread, bar of soap or a towel.
The nine-year-old girl called me to count her rocks.
“Your rocks are too small. They are the size of oranges. Look at the other rocks the children are bringing. They should be as big as grapefruits.” I smiled at Joy. “Since they are too little just bring four more rocks, and you can have your gift.”
An hour later I returned to count more rocks. Among the heaps of stones was a large pile.
“Who brought these?”
Joy stepped forward.
“You only needed four more rocks. It looks like you started the job all over again with even bigger rocks than before?”
She looked at me. “I was lazy and wanted to do a little work and brought the puny stones. Jesus wants us to do a big job, the best we can do and that’s why I carried all these giant rocks from the river.”
“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Never perform a sloppy job just to get by, but strive to do your best in everything with God’s help.
