Trust in the Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

A dear missionary friend told me this story.

When we arrived at our new home,  my husband had to travel.  The children and I were alone in the house in a strange town. I went to lock the door that night, but there was no lock.

I called the landlord. He came and tied the door knob with a rope and broom.

After I went to bed, I laid there shivering and worrying about us being attacked and killed while we slept.

I sighed. “This is silly. I can’t trust a rope and a broom to keep my three children and me safe throughout the night. So I prayed.”

The Lord had called us to be missionaries in Africa. I needed to trust Him to keep us safe, no matter where we were, or what the circumstances.

After I prayed for God’s protection over us, I fell asleep. We had a good night’s rest.

Put your trust in the Lord.

Nothing in this world can protect us absolutely, from robbers, tornadoes, earthquakes, or economic or political disasters.
