I Kings 3:15-28
“And the king said, divide the living child in two, and give half to one, and half to the other.” I Kings 3:25
Two harlots were alone in a house and both of them had a baby. One of the babies died in the night because the mother rolled on it. This woman switched her dead infant for that of the living one.
In the morning the mother of the living child, looked at the dead one at her bosom and saw it wasn’t hers. The two mothers fought over the baby and then went to King Solomon to decide who could keep the child.
The wise king ordered them to slice the infant in two and give each half to the mother.
The real mother had compassion on her child and shouted, “No, don’t kill him.” She couldn’t watch her son being slaughtered when she could save him by giving him to the other woman.
By this King Solomon knew it was her child. He gave her son to her.
Giving birth does not turn a woman into a mother. A woman becomes a mother when she puts her child’s welfare and life above her own.
A genuine mother would rather give another woman her child if that action could save the baby’s life.
Happy Mothers Day to every mother, but especially to those who have sacrificed daily for your children and been willing to give your lives for them.
