There should be more evil in the world.

People are asking the wrong question.

They ask, “Why is there so much evil in the world? Why are there so many bad guys hurting and killing others?  Why is there so much meanness, immorality, and violence?

I say, “We should have more of it.”

God created us with a free will to choose. He did not make us little robots to bow down and worship Him and do what was good and right.

Each person exercises his free will and personal choice. Someone chooses to murder, another decides to steal, another commit adultery, and another drink and drive. With everyone doing what he wants, why isn’t the world in worse shape?

If I step out of my home, then my neighbor, exercising his free will, can shoot me.  If I drive down the road, someone who chooses to drink and drive can crash into me. At the check-out the person near me can steal my security code and wipe out my accounts.

Why hasn’t this happened?

I believe when we accept Christ and follow Him, God puts a hedge of protection about us.  Consider Job in the Bible.

“Hast thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou has blessed the work of his hands.” Job 1:10-12

The right question is, “With everyone exercising his free will, why don’t more awful things happen?”

What do you think?
