Matthew 4:4 “Jesus answered, “It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

After the Bible society translated the Word of God into the local African language, a massive literacy and education program was instituted so the villagers could read the Word of God in their own language.

Some of the elderly residents suffered poor vision and cataracts so it was a challenge for them to learn how to read. But they valued the Word of God, so they purchased the New Testaments in their language, which they put under their heads each night. Later, they testified that the Bibles had given them a sweet rest and kept them safe from the evil spirits.

Man does not live on bread alone but on the Word of God. His Word is spiritual food for our souls. It strengthens and sustains our spirits.

As this New Year starts, make a resolution to feast on the Word of God daily. Read and study it each morning. Allow it to fill and satisfy your spirit and soul.

Lord, thank you for Your Word, help us to meditate on it every day.
