Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the sons of God.”

Mr. Peace, was a faithful deacon. He was called to evangelize so he started a small church between our village and the next one, but it couldn’t support him, so he worked every day as a mason.

I asked him to build some mud classrooms for our health program. He was a diligent, good worker, so I wanted to bless him with good wages.

“This is too much.” He said, “Farming is the hardest work. A farmer who works all day receives three dollars. And I didn’t work all day on your farm because you don’t have one. ”

Then Mr. Peace rebuked me for paying people too much money. My paying everyone too much money created jealousy and strife in the village and upset the standard of wages. So people didn’t want to work for each other. They only wanted to work for me to get higher wages.

Mr. Peace wanted to avoid jealousy through fair wages. From that day I paid everyone regular prices set by the authorities. Mr. Peace was a peacemaker and was a son of God.

Lord Jesus, make us peacemakers.
