Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”

Miss Titi, my health assistant, was a godly Christian and the salt of the earth. Her presence made difficult situations like car breakdowns, overwork, sickness, hunger, and thirst all suddenly pleasant. When she worked, walked to church, or to the market it was simply fun being with her.

When our taxi broke down, Miss Titi lifted all the baggage to her head. smiled, and said, “It’s not far.”

It was a two-hour hike, but she never complained. She told funny stories along the way or pointed out local herbs and flowers explaining what they were used for by the people.

The presence of the Holy Spirit flowed through her kind, gentle spirit and out to others. In the two years she worked with me she never once reproached, shouted, became angry or complained about anything.

Her presence every day in every circumstance was a delightful seasoning, like salt. It enhanced and enriched each one of us around her.

Lord Jesus, transform us into salt.
