Matthew 5:19 “Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the Kingdom of heaven.

Many different denominations sprung up in Africa. A large group of them were evangelical in that they preached and taught Jesus is the Son of God and repentance and belief in Him are necessary for eternal life.

Some churches taught that drinking local palm wines or millet beers was acceptable, while other denominations preached that all alcohol consumption was a wrong.

Other churches allowed men to become members even if they had more than one wife, while some denominations taught that a man could not become a member if he had more than one wife.

Some churches preached tithing was a command of God while other churches encouraged its members to do it but said it wasn’t a command.

One local denomination had more rules and enforced more commands than any other church. But ironically these Christians were known everywhere for their love, honesty, fairness, and generosity.

Lord Jesus, help us obey and teach your commands.
