Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said, do not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

An African pastor a few miles from me was accused of attempted rape. According to the girl he had succeeded in tearing off her skirt and throwing her to the ground. She fled, so he couldn’t rape her.

The jury at his trial proclaimed him not guilty. They gave him the benefit of the doubt, taking the word of an established pastor over that of a teenage girl.

The church headquarters transferred the pastor, a mature family man with six young children, to a church in a very isolated, rural community.

But for the rest of his time as a pastor he was remembered as “the pastor who had many faults.”

Anyone who looks on a woman with lust in his heart has already committed the act. According to the Word of God, longing, attempting, and actually doing are all sin. So the pastor had already committed the act.

Lord Jesus, help us not look on another lustfully.
