MARCH 19

MAKING THE TEAR WORSE

Matthew 9:16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.”

One of the missionaries built a mud building, but he joined the back wall to a cement incinerator to burn trash.
The cement wall did not stick to the mud wall, so there was a wide gap between them. The wind carried embers from the gaps to nearby fields and threatened to destroy the crops.

The incinerator had to be abandoned.
But it wasn’t completely useless for it became a lesson to people in the village. It represented a patch of unshrunk cloth sewn to an old rag.
When something new is fixed to old it will fall apart or become useless. A tear in a piece of cloth will rip again if sewn to a new cloth.

Let go of the old. Surrender your sins to Lord. Ask Jesus to forgive you. He will wash the old away.

If we confess all to the Lord. He will make us clean and fill us with the Holy Spirit.
We will be new creatures in Christ, useful and effective in God’s kingdom.
