Matthew 15:9 “They worship me in vain; their teaching are but rules taught by men.”
Isaiah 29:13 says, “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”
Their worship of God was based on merely human rules they had been taught.
We are all capable of hypocrisy from time to time. Some of us can slide into routine religious patterns when we worship. Sometimes we can forget to love the Lord and be devoted to Him from our hearts.
Some of the Jewish teachers of the law in Jesus’ day were putting religious practices above divine revelation. They were placing a greater importance on these traditions than loving God personally, and having a relationship with the Creator and Savior.
Having a personal, daily, loving relationship with the Lord is what Christianity really is.
