Matthew 15:14 “Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”
Have you ever seen a blind man leading a blind man? In Africa, it’s common. In one large West African city, each day was designated for a type of beggar. Blind men could beg on Tuesdays. Wednesdays was assigned to lepers. On Fridays, single women who had twins were permitted to beg.
On the days when only blind beggars could beg, they tried to help each other. So it was common to see a blind man leading another blind man.
Those blind never fell into a pit because they came from a short distance and used the walls of buildings and sticks to guide them to their assigned place to beg.
Jesus in these verses was speaking about the spiritually blind.
The Lord said to leave these blind alone because the spiritually blind were leading others astray.
Both would fall into the pit.
