JULY 15

HADES WILL NOT OVERCOME IT

Matthew 16:17-19 “Jesus replied. “Blessed are you Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the key of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Peter had just acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, Son of the Living God. Peter confessed his faith in Christ and became the first leader of the church in Jerusalem. His confession was one of the first that all believers in Christ would eventually declare.

Jesus is the rock on which the church would be built and endure throughout history.

Hades is called the “Gates of Hell” in the KJV. Throughout the Bible there are numerous references to everlasting flames and a place of eternal torment after our physical death.

Jesus is declaring a greater truth, the everlasting truth. In spite of Satan and every wile of the devil and wickedness known to man, Christ’s Church will always stand. No one or nothing will ever defeat Christ. The church of Jesus Christ will endure throughout history and no form of sin or trickery of the devil will ever destroy it.

Believers who confess the Messiah like Peter did will stand until the end. Believers in Christ Jesus the Messiah, are the church of Christ. And nothing will destroy His church. His followers, who love and worship Him will stand firm until the end.
AMEN.
